I think the experiences I have lived in instructional technology have been very constructive because I have learned to work with new tools such as voxopop and voixethread; however, sometimes it was hard to work with them. I remember many situations in which while trying to upload something I faced so many bugs that I started to feel stressed and with a headache. Now, this has been useful since by making mistakes I have found the right way of the processes, so I will be able to do it quickly if I need to do it in the future, but it doesn't mean that loading a headache in ny hard disk ( my brain ) is the only useful way to get the best out of the tools; therefore, in this entry I want to share the good, bad, memorable, and relevant things of my experience working in both websites.
I think that voxopop is nice in the way that you can access just with your username and password; besides it provides you the features to generate interesting discussions on the web, yet only voice recorded discussions. Something that really annoyed me is that it was really difficult to find the group I had created and it was even more difficult to find the friends I had added to comment on their redordings. I had to go to facebook all the time and look for the links because at the beginning I couldn't even find my own stuff. Let's take into account that I am used to facebook where you have easy acces to everything, the pictures and the words used make it very easy, contrary to voxopop.
Regarding Voicethread, I got really upset when I discovered I couldn't run it in my android due to the flash player needed; nevertheless, I got to the conclusion that its variety of features make it unique and appealing to turn on the computer and work on it. I personally enjoyed uploading the picture and checking the voice recording, the use of the pencil, and the typed comments. What made me feel mad was the video upload because I had to record it like three times for it stopped in the middle even though I didn't have internet connection problems. I consider that my Ss will not enjoy to work in that way. For many people it's a huge shame to be recorded and to have problems loading the video, it's definetely a headache.
That's why, I can conclude that using these tools was a not a waste of time because at least now I know what not to use, XD. When I get the chance to use this.technology with my Ss I guess I will use voicethread, but not the videos features.
Hi JUlio, definetely all of you got different view points towards both tools. And as you pointed out, it can be REALLY frustating to work with them. Specially when you don´t have the right equipment or your Internet is of low quality. However after you have gone through many annoying moments and finally listen to yourself and other classmates using the audio, that is amazingly priceless. By the way, your observations about both tools is just great. You have been able to highlight the good and stressful features for both. Thank you for your job.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your praising teacher, and you are right we all sre the differences according to our context; in my case, I always prefer to use my phone which doesn't require much wait to work, but I have to make an effort to work in the computer too.
DeleteHi Julito, I think that you are right when you say that it has been a constructive experience because we have learned to work with two different technological tools that can be really useful because of the different options they offer us, but to be sincere in my special case, those tools have represented a terrible headache since the very beginning we started to used them because I am not someone really patient to work with those kind of things. Also I have to share with you that I found easier to work with voicethread than with voxopop and that I like more voicethread because of its variety of options. With Voicethread you can have conversations and make comments using any mix of text, a microphone, a web cam or uploaded audio file; and until this moment what I know about Voxopop is that you can record something and have an answer by recording again.
ReplyDeleteYou have a pount there. I also prefer voicethread for the same reasons you mentioned. At least, we know what can be useful for our future teaching
DeleteHi Julio, I am in agreement with your comment because this experience has been really useful. Now we are having the opportunity to know more about the use of these tools. And as you said at the beginning was kind of difficult because some of us are not so familiar with these tools. Also I can say that Voicethread is more easy to use than Voxopop.
ReplyDeleteI guess we were not so familiar, but now we are and whenever we need them in tue future we will know what to do.
ReplyDeleteHey Julio I like the way you address things.I agree with you ,even though I recognize these are very useful tools. Your points of vew are very relevant since you mention some points nobody dares to. I want to encourage you not to lose your style.Walk on.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I feel I´m losing strengths.I´m also getting blind for being in front of the screen.
Thank you Boteo!
DeleteI also like the way you enjoy reading my thoghts, and don't worry about your eyes there are always glaases that can make it for you. Let us agree not to give up. Ok???
